The word decepcionar has always seemed to not quite be the word I want. It is the word that is often used to translate disappoint. The word seems like it should be deceive, not disappoint. But, it does mean to disappoint.

This is also a transitive verb. Therefore it needs an object. You cannot say mi amiga decepcionó, my friend disappointed. You have to say who or what was disappointed. Mi amiga me decepcionó. My friend disappointed me.
