Arrancar

» by in: Verbs

When we start a car in Mexico we use the verb arrancar. That had been only definition that I had known for the use of the word. While reading one time I came across the word and it was used in connection with corn being plucked off the stalk.

I checked with the dictionary and found out that the primary uses of the word are to pull out, pluck up, exert force. Towards the bottom of the list of definitions was to start. All of these definitions carry with them the idea of movement brought on by force. It is easy to see how they are related.
