Decepcionar

» by December 17th, 2007 at 11:14 pm » Comments (0)

The word decepcionar has always seemed to not quite be the word I want. It is the word that is often used to translate disappoint. The word seems like it should be deceive, not disappoint. But, it does mean to disappoint. This is also a transitive verb. Therefore it needs an object. You cannot say [...]

Aun, aún, aunque

These are 3 words that I see and hear a lot but don’t use much. Mostly because I can’t keep them straight. Aun means even or still. Te daré 100 pesos, y aun 200, si los necesitas. I will give you 100 pesos, and even 200, if you need them. Aún means yet or still. [...]

Henchir

This is something that has literally been on my mind for a few days. Dolor de cabeza is a headache. Migraña is also a commonly used word meaning migraine. A word I have never heard used but have seen on subtitles is jaqueca. This is another word for migraine.

Dado

I am talking about the noun dado, not the past participle of dar nor the adjective, meaning a given item. Dado as a noun is a “catch all” word. It is used for many small items. Most notably dice. Dado is the word used for sockets, as in ratchet and socket. I don’t know what [...]

Impío

Impío is a word that I see in the Bible all the time. It is used to mean wicked. It has the flavor of just being a Bible word. Sometimes I have noticed words which are used in the Bible, but don’t get used much in every day speech. Last night as I watched a [...]
